German discounter Lidl has introduced collection lockers at 24 stores across the UK.

InPost lockers have been rolled out in 24 stores across London, Birmingham and Manchester, and allows customers, which can access the lockers by using a QR-code on their smartphones, to pick up and return online orders from and to third parties, including Holland & Barret, JD Sports and Boohoo.
Reducing unnecessary travel
According to Lidl, the lockers would “reduce unnecessary travel with Britain still on lockdown due to the pandemic.”
Meanwhile, InPost’s chief executive Jason Tavaria commented: “With current lockdown guidance limiting how and when people can leave the house, it is vital that they are able to maximise each trip and not make unnecessary additional journeys.”
He adds: “Installing delivery lockers at one of the UK’s best-loved supermarkets allows them to do this and also provides a useful, contact-free outbound resource at a time when many Post Offices are closed. The positive feedback we’ve already had from customers shows they’re open to change, with trip-chaining becoming more common and demonstrating the demand for greater integration between how people work, shop and play.”
According to a survey conducted by InPost, 68% of respondents viewed Lidl as an ideal place for the lockers, while 85 percent said the lockers were their reason for visiting this particular supermarket.
It’s not the first time that the discounter introduces parcel lockers in its stores, as it has done so in Ireland and Finland across the last 12 months.
